Althen industrial joystick sales
Industrial joysticks are lever devices that control a machine in terms of inclination and direction. The operation of the control lever—on which buttons and switches can also be installed—is interpreted via special detection systems and translated into a signal that activates the moving parts of the machine itself. The sensors used are typically inductive or potentiometric, with micro-switches also used in other cases.
Operation
The operating way of industrial joysticks basically depends on the lever movement detection system.
In the inductive models, a magnetic coil is connected to the base of the lever, whose movement causes the displacement and deflection of the magnetic coil present on the knob. The change of profile of the resulting magnetic wave is then interpreted to calculate the displacement.
In the potentiometer—or resistive—models, the levers are spring loaded, operating on the knob, with the Ohm value emitted by the potentiometer varying and interpreted to determine the actual displacement.
Finally, in the microswitch models, the microswitches—when closed—regulate the passage of energy.
All the three types can be equipped with a dead man (or present man) switch to prevent the involuntary operation of the joystick itself.
Applications
Industrial Joysticks are used in any situation requiring extremely precise and intuitive control of the machinery. Amongst the most common sectors are:
- Robotics
- Three-dimensional measurement apparatus
- Medical equipment
- Forklifts
- Precision machinery
- Agricultural machinery
- Lifting set-ups
